10 Days for Mental Health Free Online Course - Day 8

Day 8 for Mental Health.png

Today we’re going to try to boost your energy and enthusiasm for life.

Digital detox

As a little extra, we’d like you to come off social media, whatsapp and email for the day if possible.

We understand that work and family commitments make this difficult sometimes but try and reduce the amount of time you spend on a phone or screen today.

You can gently let people know you’re going to do this and tell them you are having a “mental wellbeing day”. Ask them to call you on your landline if it’s something important.

Be mindful of how you feel without your phone or screen. Instead of reaching for it, find other ways to fill your time. Then at the end of the day, see how you now feel after that reduced screen time. Some of the benefits of this is that you are guaranteed to feel less skittish and stressed and you suddenly realise what a lot of time you can free up.

Colour therapy

One thing you can do is take a look around your home and in your wardrobe and think about how colour affects your life and how you can bring your favourite colours into your home and wardrobe to lift your spirits.

Take a look at our article The Power of Colour Therapy and have a go at our soothing meditation that involves colour waterfalls. (It also has the added benefit of detoxing your emotions using a calming technique).

This meditation will help you figure out which colour actually gives you the best feeling, and then you can go about trying to fill your life with that uplifting colour.

Float Away Stress

Thinking about pleasant pastimes is a great way to distract yourself from stress. Revisiting beautiful memories of holidays in your head or happy events can fill you with joy. Below is a beautiful hypnosis meditation which has a peaceful and restful effect to make you feel like you’re on holiday.

Self Massage

As we saw on Day 3 with the Indian Head Massage, the art of massage is another way of bringing some peace into your life by distracting your mind from negative brain chatter by concentrating on your physical state instead.

Listen to the clip below – it’s a relaxing guided self-massage that you can listen to and follow with your eyes closed to help take your mind away from difficult thoughts.

Enjoy the techniques today and we’ll see you tomorrow for Day 9.
